Berneray Hostel is located in a friendly community in Berneray, a small island in the Outer Hebrides (Western Isles). The 2 by 3 mile island has some 125 residents and is famous for is beautiful beaches, white sand, and high dunes. Berneray is also rich in history and wildlife.
The Berneray Hostel is run by the Gatliff Hebridean Hostels Trust, a charitable organisation which helps local people run traditional crofts as simple hostels. The four Gatliff Hostels are situated in the Outer Hebrides and provide many visitors with accommodation in stunning sea-shore settings at reasonable rates. Hostel Rooms
The hostel has three large dorm rooms with a total of 20 beds. The price for a bed is £9.00 for people over 18 year old, and £6.00 for those 17 and under. The hostel provides blankets and duvets for guests. Although advanced bookings are not accepted for this hostel, it is very unlikely that guests will not be able to find a bed. However, large groups may have trouble finding accommodation.
Hostel Facilities
Hostel facilities include guest kitchen, washing facilities, toilets, hot and cold water, and heating. Sheet sleeping bags can be hired for £1.50.
When to Visit
The hostel is open year-round and you can always count on a relaxing and tranquil atmosphere on Berneray. A festive time to visit the island is during the third week of July, when it opens its community for Berneray Week.
Getting There
After entering the island continue on the road around Bays Loch and past the shop until the metalled road takes a sharp left turn. Follow the track towards the sea shore past a thatched ruilding on the right side. Turn right at the gate - the Berneray Hostel is the two white walled thatched building on the shore.
